Professional Cleanings
Professional cleaning is an important part of your oral and overall health. Plaque is a harmful bacterial and the biggest threat to your teeth and gums. Plaque is a thin biofilm that constantly forms on and around your teeth. If plaque is allowed to build up, it will eventually calcify into a substance called tartar, which is much more difficult to remove. During your professional cleaning, Dr. Seider will remove all instances of plaque and tartar from the surfaces of your teeth. Once your teeth are clean, he will apply polish to restore the sheen to your smile. Dr. Seider will utilize a ultrasonic scaler, which is more effective than traditional hand tools, to remove the tartar build up. The ultrasonic scaler produces microscopic bubbles that break up the plaque and tartar deposits without damaging healthy tooth enamel to thoroughly clear your teeth.
In some cases, patients may experience gum disease, also known as “periodontitis” or “periodontal disease,” which is the leading cause of tooth loss in American adults. Regular brushing and flossing are not enough to treat gum disease. Patients require a thorough cleaning procedure known as scaling and root planning.
